  • DRIVERS ED In-person (June 10-24, 2024)

    In-person classes are taught by licensed High School teachers. The State requires that students attend all 30 hours of the class. If they miss one class, they will need to make arrangements with the instructor to make it up and pay an additional fee. Blue cards are given out to students after class is completed. A practice permit test is provided during the class. Behind-the-wheel Instruction includes six hours of driving in private lessons. Their Driver's Education teacher will contact students to schedule their 6 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction, usually within six months after receiving their permit. Parent involvement is required to produce safe, responsible teen drivers and practice regularly with their student drivers. The state requires that students have a minimum of 50 hours of practice (15 hours at night). The practice time must be recorded on a state-approved Supervised Driving Log and presented at the road test. These classes are not required but qualify the parent to receive a certificate that allows their student reduced practice time (from 50 to 40 hours). HERE'S WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO! Register TODAY for in-person Driver's Education at www.hastingscommunited.com, enter Driver's Ed in the search box; visit us at Tilden Community Center, 310 River Street; or call 651-480-7671. Successfully finish the classroom portion of Driver's Education. When completed, you will receive your blue card to take with you to the Driver's Exam Station to take your permit test. Also, bring: a primary identification, such as your birth certificate or passport a secondary identification, such as your school ID your Social Security card After passing your permit test, you will be issued your permit, which you need to have prior to starting behind the wheel. Behind the Wheel must be completed within two years after finishing the classroom.

If a student misses a lesson, they can make up that exact lesson by registering for a make-up lesson on their Safeway account. Blue cards would be mailed out to students after class is completed. The permit test is not provided during the class. Safeway would email the Zoom information and account verification email before the class begins.

  • Extreme Robotics: Bionic Beasts (Grades 4-8)

    Students will program robots to move, act and think on their own. Discover the excitement of programming your creation to follow a command and watch it go. Our classes are fun, educational, and hands-on, teaching students the foundations of building and programming concepts. Students working in teams will then be challenged to morph their projects into better, stronger, or faster robots. Please bring lunch and a drink.
  • F.A.S.T. KIDS – Staying Safe While Home Alone (Ages 7+)

    First Aid and Safety Trained Kids is a 4-hour course for 7 - 10-year-olds. This course helps prepare children for staying safe at and away from home. Lessons cover basic first aid, water safety, vehicle safety, home emergencies, injury prevention, stranger and internet safety. Students will receive a book, handouts and a home first aid kit as part of the class. Bring snacks, a drink, a pencil, and colored pencils or markers.

    This class will provide participants with the fundamentals of fantasy football. If you are new to fantasy football, this is the class for you! Participants will learn how to draft players (there will be a mock 4 round draft), understand important terms and abbreviations needed to succeed in fantasy football, be provided tools (websites) that make it fun and easy to compete week to week, and how to begin a league. Participants will learn how fun and easy fantasy football can be. Matt has been playing fantasy football since the 6th grade (37 years). Matt loves fantasy football and has seen how binding fantasy football can be between friends and family. Matt has a wonderful wife and a 13 year old son. They have two rescue dogs named Thor and Midnight. Matt has had Vikings season tickets since 1998. This is his 20th year as a special education teacher, and his 9th year in Saint Paul Public Schools.

    Experience the excitement of football with Skyhawks Flag Football Fueled by USA Football. Using a curriculum developed by the experts from USA Football, coaches will teach skills like passing, receiving, kicking and flag pulling. Participants will gain confidence and learn important life lessons in a fun, positive environment. Plan to meet on the field by the middle school tennis courts. If there is inclement weather, camp will be moved to middle school south gym.

Fishing License required only if you plan on fishing (catch and release): In order to get a permanent Angler License you must have a current letter from Social Security stating Disability or SSI Benefits. There is no FEE. You must get this license through the DNR License agent or DNR License Center. If you do not plan to fish, you do not need a license. The outing is free, but you must register with Community Education by calling 651-480-7670. (Staff/caregiver must also register as there is only room for 10 on the boat.

There is even an online option for 4th-8th grade. Order the grade level your student is in the process of completing. This is a review program, not intended for introducing new topics. Families save $10 when registering for both Math and Reading! Registration closes Sunday, April 28th. Materials can be sent to your child's school for distribution if they attend one of our public schools. If you do not attend one of our public schools, you will be notified when materials are available for pick up from Tilden Community Center.
