Join local artist Greg Kraft as he teaches you how to TIG weld and make a sculpture for your home or garden. You will cut, bend and shape steel straps around a stone. Weld the steel to encase the stone and mount it on a steel rod with more welding. TIG stands for Tungsten Inert Gas. This type of welding bonds metal to metal without the use of rods, sticks or wire feeds. Greg will cover safety as well as introductory concepts of sculpture design.
Students should wear a long sleeved cotton shirt, jeans or heavy-duty work pants, closed toe leather shoes or boots. Bring leather work gloves, a stone about the size of your fist, welding gear if you have it and your creativity!
Greg Kraft was born in 1958 in Devils Lake, North Dakota. The beauty of nature inspired his passion for wood carving. He was an ice carver at the St. Paul Winter Carnival for 10 years. He has been awarded 14 ribbons for his knife and tool making, basketry, bead work, wood carving and pen turning. He completed the Vesper School of Sculpture and has been featured in several galleries, a couple of Minnesota Sculpture Walks and has won numerous awards.
