  • Babysitting 101 with Emergency Outfitters

    Emergency Outfitters is back! This wildly popular course fills fast every year and leaves youth equipped to to be ready to care for children! This course follows the American Academy of Pediatrics – Babysitter Lessons And Safety Training (BLAST). Students learn current practices for safety and injury prevention, first aid basics, feeding and caring for infants, how to handle behavior problems, and how to manage their babysitting business. Students receive a reference book, handouts, babysitting bag and first aid kit. Students need to bring a snack, beverage, and sack lunch. Recommended for ages 10-14.
  • Beyond Pinch Pots Art Camp - Middle Schoolers

    Every kid loves making pinch pots! But let’s go beyond that and learn super cool techniques to transform pinch pots into puppy pals, silly rabbits, playful penguins and much more. Not only will the kids learn the basics of working with clay but they will create amazing clay creations that are way cooler than a plain old ordinary pinch pot! Shhhh, don’t tell anyone, but this camp is our best-kept secret! Register early before it fills up! Please pack a nut free snack and drink for your child. Youth ages 10-13 (middle schoolers).
  • Code Championship Tournament / Virtual Computer Coding Competition

    Grades 3-9--Large range, but LOTS of room to grow and learn through coding competitions! Build a computer bot to play head-to-head against other coders! Players will be broken into pools based on age for competitive and fair play. Whether this is your first Code Championship event, or if you've been competing for years, this is the perfect way to explore the competitive coding world of Code Championship. No previous coding experience necessary. This event will be hosted online using Google Meet and the Code Championship website. If you have a modern browser like Chrome or Firefox, no additional download is required. Please come knowing how to navigate the internet (basic typing and mouse control). The link to the Google Meet event will be emailed two days before the tournament.
  • Colorguard Camp (Gr 4 - 8)

    Colorguard is the dynamic movement component, typically associated with marching band and is an awesome way to get involved in the band community without needing to play an instrument! Colorguard teaches dance basics and skills, along with flag twirling and equipment handling and management, not to mention it improves your athleticism and stamina without being too difficult for beginners to enjoy.     Cornerstone Horse Camps Youth horse camps are a great way to experience the joy and hard work that go hand in hand with working with animals! Beautiful Cornerstone on the Vermillion Stables provides a wonderful backdrop for these four day camps that are all about horses. Students will ride using different techniques and styles. They’ll learn how to care for their horses and about stable etiquette. Students are grouped by ages and abilities, so no matter where you student is, they’ll learn something new with Cornerstone! Please send a cold lunch, bike helmet, and water bottle for the day. Students need to be dressed to ride in long pants, tennis shoes, and sun protection. Please note: Current Covid 19 protocols will be updated and sent to families the week before their camp.
  • Critters Day Camp (ages 5-10)

    Does your elementary school student love critters? So do we! Join Hastings Community Education staff as we spend two amazing mornings learning about critters in the Tilden neighborhood. Squirrels? Check! Robins? Check! Bumble Bees? Check! Through exploration, journaling, crafts, and games, we’ll enjoy nature and getting to know the critters right next door. Please send a peanut free snack and water bottle each morning. This class is a collaboration between Hastings Community Education and the Americorp Promise Fellow program! Cost is $20 for single student and $10 for each additional sibling*
  • Day of Drawing - All Day Art Camp! (ages 5-12)

    If it’s drawing, painting, and cartooning you’re after, then this is the camp for you! This multi-age class meets students where they are in their art skills and then builds! Join us for a day full of drawing fun! In this introductory drawing camp, basic techniques and principles of drawing will be taught. You will master a simple step-by-step drawing method as you create drawings that glow-in-the-dark, artwork that pops out at you, a painting on a real canvas board, and so much more. Please pack a nut free snack, lunch and a drink for your child.
  • Drivers Education (June 14 -18 & June 21-25, 2021)

    Classes held via ZOOM (It is possible this class may be held in person at the Hastings High School) You will be notified before the start date of any changes 6 hours Behind the Wheel scheduled upon successful completion of classroom instruction. This is the ONLY local Driver’s Education Program taught by experienced Hastings School District teachers Vicki Davis, Nathan Neuman, Erik Dietz, and Ryan Redetzke.Thorough parent communication is top priority.   • FAST KIDS - Staying Safe while Home Alone with Emergency Outfitters

    First Aid and Safety Trained Kids is a 4-hour course for 7 – 10 year olds. Lessons cover basic first aid, water safety, vehicle safety, stranger safety, home emergencies, injury prevention, and personal safety. This course helps prepare children for staying at home alone. Students will receive a book, handouts and a home first aid kit as part of the class. Students need to bring a snack, pencil, and water bottle.
  • Fencing Camp (2nd - 5th grade)

    Is your athlete looking for something new? Or maybe your not-so-sporty student needs something physical and engaging to try. Fencing is sometimes called intellectual athletics--but with exercise! YELS has been teaching fencing for over a decade and the coaches continue to deliver high-quality, engaging programming for students excited to try something new.     Did you know Tilden has hundreds of flowers on campus? We do and they are beautiful! During this 2-day camp, we will explore the flowers and plants around Tilden. We will also learn about how plants grow and thrive here in Minnesota and other places as well. We will even plant our very own flowers! Please send a peanut free snack and water bottle each morning.   • I Heart Art - All Day Art Camp! (ages 5-12)

    Does your child love art? Painting, drawing, clay-it’s all awesome! We will experiment with many techniques, materials, and styles as we make 3D owls, stylized self-portraits, clay coil creations and more. Come to camp ready for some mess-making fun and learning.     In this camp, we will be creating custom armor, items, and blocks. Learn to mod Minecraft using MCreator to customize your gaming experience. We will be learning how to mod Minecraft Java Edition. Students should be comfortable with keyboarding and, of course, playing Minecraft! At the end of the class, take home your Mods to share with family and friends.

    We scoured the Scratch website and assembled a collection of the most popular game sprites. Choose characters from Undertale, Pokémon, Nintendo, Minecraft and even classic characters like Donkey Kong, Pac-Man, Sonic, and Mario! Possible games created: Mario Kart, Pokémon Pong, and Sonic Frogger. Bring a USB drive to save your games on the last day, or they can be emailed to parents. Please bring lunch and drink.

    We love Pollinators! Using amazing curriculum from the U of M Bee Lab, we’ll enjoy a whole day of learning about pollinators--bees included! Through games, crafts, and exploration, students will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn about the impact pollinators have on our eco system. This camp will include exploring the Tilden neighborhood and lots of time outside, so be sure to check watch for the all-day supply list!
